On July 8, 2010 and application was filed with the CRTC by Durham Radio Inc. to purchase CFWC-FM Power 93.9 in Brantford. As part of this application, Durham Radio Inc has stated that the intention is to change the format of Power 93 from Christian to Broad-Based Rock.
93.9 FM represents the only FM Christian radio station in this part of Southern Ontario. Similar stations operate out of Kitchener, London and Barrie, to name a few, but none of these stations are available to residents of Brantford, Brant County, Hamilton, Haldimand or Norfolk.
Currently there are numerous Rock stations that service this part of the province. Q107 from Toronto, The Edge from Toronto, Hitz FM from Niagara, Giant FM from Niagara and Y108 from Hamilton, to name but a few. Numerous rock stations – one Christian station. We can’t lose this FM frequency, especially when one considers that there is virtually no room left on the FM dial to start a new Christian station in this area in the future.
Other Christian media companies have expressed an interest in purchasing Power 93. These companies would keep 93.9 FM as a Christian radio station, bringing fresh new programming. They would give us a high quality, competitive Christian station that we can turn to for positive uplifting music and an encouraging word when we need it during our day or night.
Part of the application process established by the CRTC regarding a format change is to receive comments from the public, expressing their opinion. This is our chance to speak up and be heard by the CRTC. We need to let them know that this area needs and wants Christian radio! We need to let them know that we, as a Christian community, support Christian radio and that we don’t need another Rock station to serve this community and this area.
An intervention process is currently underway regarding Durham Radio Inc’s application. This is our chance to file letters with the CRTC to show them how important Christian radio is to us. This web site is not attempting to slight Durham Radio Inc in any way. We simply want to keep Christian radio in our community. If you’d like to support this process please click here for intervention filing instructions.
The deadline to submit your letter is August 12, 2010.
